Angler Fly

Winter fly fishing techniques. What? Flyfishing in winter? Are you crazy? Many fly fishermen put away their gear in the winter reading magazines and use, tying flies, or watch football. But imagine a calm river, with beautiful scenery, solitude, and often the big fish. Leave your feeds favorite for trout or a river in the winter can be very productive if they apply some simple techniques and are willing to adapt to climate change.

How to keep warm. Layers, layers and more layers. You will need to layer clothing underneath your waders. Use 2 or 3 pairs of socks. Usually, a pair of clothes thermal underwear alone or with jeans or a blue fleece under your waders will suffice to keep warm in most circumstances. Use a T-shirt a loose shirt with long sleeves, and then a heavy sweater or fleece jacket with rain over a good that would normally be the case to keep your torso from freezing. A hat and gloves if you must venture into the river during the winter. A couple of hot hand or a thermos full of hot coffee or hot chocolate stuffed into a vest pocket can also help to wick moisture away from your fingers if your hands get cold to get a little wet and cold management of its line of flight or landing a fish.

Make sure your boots and waders are waterproof. Boots leak or boots are a recipe for disaster when wading in cold water. Wear boots are one or two sizes larger than normally used to make room for the extra layer of socks. The key is to ensure none of their clothing or gear is strong. Breathable waders was more comfortable than neoprene and work surprisingly well to keep warm. I only use neoprene boots when the weather is very cold and unpleasant.

Winter is the time to use the flies basement. Although the flies that hatch and the trout came to them in good condition during the winter months, nymphs drifting in a strike indicator fly fishing is the most reliable and productive winter techniques used at this time of year. Golden Pheasant Tails hares rock ear fly, mosquitoes, and prince nymphs are the patterns most likely to use in winter. Reducing flight habits is recommended. Sizes 12 to 20 works better because, like fish, insects have a slower metabolism in winter too, and have not yet reached its full size. The reduction head and palate is also recommended. Several times, the water will be clearer in the winter. Going down a size or two to help Leary prevent fish from being afraid.

As expected, no trout are active, their metabolism is slower, and can be a bit lethargic during the winter. In that spirit, seeks the deepest, most running slow pools outside the mainstream. Search deep, slow pools works near the shore or below rifles and quick. The trout are likely to be clung to get coverage in these areas. You will also get his fastball was near the bottom where the trout are celebrating because they move too far to get their food. I would also recommend that you use a dual platform. Rig two flies 12 to 18 inches apart and set your strike indicator at depths where flies near or touching the bottom. This allows you to cover more water and fish to give more options.

Although trout are not as active in the winter months, they still need to eat, and are usually more than eager to take an offering if it is presented correctly, even when it is cold out. So, if you are willing to brave the elements, and give these winter fly fishing techniques a try, you will see that fly fishing in the winter is definitely a great way to relieve some of that cabin fever. In fact, it can be a down right exhilarating experience.

Fly Fishing for Beginners (The Freshwater Angler)

Fly Fishing for Beginners (The Freshwater Angler)

$15.98

Many anglers who wish to get started in fly fishing are intimidated. With so many choices of expensive rods, reels, lines, leaders and flies, it’s difficult to know where to begin. And it doesn’t help that a few of the so-called "experts" in the field write articles implying the sport is difficult to master. The truth is, to be a successful fly angler you don’t need to know everything about everything. That’s what sets this book apart from the many other fly fishing books available today. In these pages, veteran fly-fishing instructor Chris Hansen concentrates on teaching you the basics. For example, if you aren’t sure what level fly angler you are, check out Hansen’s "10 Ways to Tell If You’re a Beginner." Want to learn how to fly cast? Read "12 Tips to Making the Perfect Cast." And if you think you must carry everything but the kitchen sink with you every time you wade into a stream, look at Hansen’s "8 Accessories for Every Trip."Hansen understands the best reason to try fly fishing is that in many situations you can catch more fish with flies than you can with spinning or baitcasting lures. In this book’s final chapter, "Catching Fish on Flies," he details these situations for panfish, trout, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, and even northern pike. In addition, he shows you his "Top 10 Fly Patterns" for each species and the best retrieves for getting finicky fish to strike.
